Mrs. Calvin Houghland
Bio: Mary Ann Houghland is the widow of longtime Iroquois Steeplechase Chairman Calvin Houghland and has continued the family's heritage of racing high-quality steeplechase horses. Ranked seventh by owner earnings last year with $118,800 in purse earnings. Her Sweet Shani was the 2011 Life's Illusion Filly and Mare Champion after winning the Margaret Currey Henley at Iroquois for the second straight year and then the Peapack Stakes at Far Hills, N.J., last fall. Calvin Houghland, who died in October 2009, raced Pierrot Lunaire, winner of that year's Iroquois. Also races top-division member Nationbuilder, winner of the 2010 Queen's Cup MPC 'Chase for novices.
