Bio: Birthdate: Oct. 4, 1948. Home: Kirkwood, Pa. Champion: 1991. Leading earner: 1991, 1998. Eclipse Award Winners: Flat Top (2002, 1998), Correggio (1996). First female trainer and only second woman to be inducted into Racing Hall of Fame, in 2009. Marked her induction year with fifth-place tie in trainer standings with seven victories. Also fifth by earnings with $226,670. Sent out Red Letter Day to win the Lonesome Glory Steeplechase (Gr. 1) at Belmont Park. Had a quiet year in 2010 with three wins from only 17 starts and purse earnings of $60,450. Trained Flat Top to Eclipse Awards in 1998 and 2002. Won Eclipse Award in 1996 with Coreggio. Also trained Census, winner of the first Breeders’ Cup Steeplechase in 1986, and Victorian Hill. Leading steeplechase trainer in 1991. Came to the U.S. on a visit from her home in Ireland and worked for Jonathan Sheppard, who urged her to open her own stable in 1979.
