High Hope Stables’ Baltic Shore set all the pace and turned back a challenge from Gustavian to win the $50,000 Queen’s Cup MPC ‘Chase by a half-length at the Queen’s Cup Steeplechase near Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday, April 28. Hickory Tree Stable’s Gustavian finished second, 5 1/4 lengths clear of Dogwood Stable’s Trippo.
Trained by Arch Kingsley Jr., Baltic Shore kept his 2012 record perfect after running the Queen’s Cup’s 2 1/4 miles in 4:32.40 on soft turf. Kingsley also trained Trippo.
Baltic Shore is owned by the High Hope stable of Bill and Carrington Price, co-chairs of the Queen’s Cup, and George and Sue Sensor of Camden, S.C. Baltic Shore opened the season with a victory in the Woodward-Kirkover optional allowance at the Carolina Cup Races in Camden on March 31.
