To protect the health and safety of its community and participants, the Cheshire Point-to-Point has been postponed to Sunday, June 7, when it will feature its first National Steeplechase Association-sanctioned race, the $10,000 Louis Neilson III, an amateur apprentice timber race.
The Cheshire Point-to-Point originally had been scheduled for Sunday, March 29.
“We are following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as those of Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf to limit the spread of the coronavirus,” Cheshire Co-chairman Kathy Neilson said in announcing the postponement. “The well-being of our fans and our race participants always comes first.”
In addition to the first running of the sanctioned race named for the late steeplechase horseman Paddy Neilson, the Cheshire Point-to-Point very likely will include its traditional schedule of flat and timber races and pony races.
