Mede Cahaba Stable’s Class Indian made strong move on the final turn of the $25,000 Daniel Van Clief Memorial, jumped the last fence with Cornhusker, and fought to a half-length victory in the feature race of the 35th annual Foxfield Spring Races in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, April 28.
Armata Stables’ Cornhusker finished second, and Randleston Farm’s Duc de Savoie was third. Ridden by Richard Boucher, Class Indian completed the Van Clief Memorial’s 2 1/8 miles in 4:05.20 on firm turf.
Trained by Lilith Boucher, Class Indian opened his 2012 season with a second-place finish in the $50,000 Budweiser Imperial Cup at the Aiken Spring Races in South Carolina on March 24.
