Colonial Downs opens its 2020 season on Monday, and two steeplechase races will kick off the racing season at the Richmond, Va.-area track. First post time is 4 p.m., and the jump races will be the first and second races.
Colonial will conduct its 2020 meet without spectators because of the coronavirus pandemic. The steeplechase races will be run under National Steeplechase Association rules with no pari-mutuel betting.
On the opening card will be two $20,000 maiden hurdles with full fields of 10, and many of jump racing’s leading owners, trainers, and jockeys will be represented in the 2¼-mile races over National Fences.
In all, Colonial has scheduled steeplechase racing on five Monday programs, culminating with the $50,000 Randolph Rouse Handicap for fillies and mares on Aug. 31. At least one maiden hurdle will be offered on each program.
