A spring stakes winner, two impressive Saratoga Race Course allowance winners, and an undefeated newcomer are among 11 nominees to Belmont Park’s $75,000 William Entenmann Memorial Novice Stakes on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Also among the nominees are the second- and third-place finishers in Saratoga’s Jonathan Kiser Novice Stakes on July 24.
Riverdee Stable’s City Dreamer closed out the spring with a victory in the Iroquois Steeplechase’s Marcellus Frost Champion Hurdle for novices on May 11. The Irish-bred is trained by Jack Fisher, who also nominated Bruton Street-US’s Snap Decision, a 38½-length winner at Saratoga on Aug. 14, and a newcomer to American racing, Hyggelig Haven’s Cracker Factory.
Ricky Hendriks trains the other impressive Saratoga allowance winner, Rosbrian Farm’s Teodoro, who wheeled away to a33 ¾-length victory on Aug. 28. The Pennsylvania-based trainer also nominated Rosbrian’s Veneer of Charm, who was unplaced in his only jumps start this year.
KMSN Racing’s Sportswear won his first two starts over fences handily for Racing Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard. The four-year-old most likely would have been favored for the Kiser, but a quickly resolved lameness on race day forced a scratch.
Jacqueline Ohrstrom’s Arch My Boy closed well to be second in the Kiser in his American debut for trainer Richard Valentine. Also nominated was Virginia Lazenby’s Help From Heaven, who was third in the Kiser after finishing second in the Marcellus Frost.
Help From Heaven is trained by Kate Dalton, who also nominated Belisarius, most recently third in Saratoga’s New York Turf Writers Cup Handicap (Gr.1) on Aug. 22. Both also were nominated to Belmont’s Lonesome Glory Handicap (Gr. 1) on Sept. 19.
Irv Naylor nominated Chief Justice, who finished fourth in the Marcellus Frost in his American debut for trainer Cyril Murphy. Completing the nominations is Mason H. Lampton’s Maccabee, a three-time winner over fences this spring for trainer Lilith Boucher.
