Champion trainer Jack Fisher will send out a formidable trio for Saturday’s $25,000 Brown Advisory Legacy Chase, the featured timber race of the 16th annual Shawan Races in Hunt Valley, Md.
The Shawan meet, which annually kicks off the fall schedule of race meets, attracted crowded fields, with 98 horses initially entered for its eight races. Also on the program is a $25,000 optional allowance hurdle headed by multiple stakes winner Balance the Budget. First post time in 1p.m.
Fisher’s one-two-three punch in the 3 1/8-mile Legacy Chase is headed by Two’s Company, the Middleburg Hunt Cup winner who closed for second in the Virginia Gold Cup on May 7. Two’s Company is owned by Bruton Street-US, which also will be represented by allowance winner Ballylifen.
Sean McDermott rides Two’s Company, and Alice Mills will be aboard Ballylifen.
Currently the leading trainer by wins and purses, Fisher also will saddle Straight to It, winner of the Radnor Hunt Cup in May for owners Sheila Williams and Northwood Stables. Champion jockey Paddy Young has the mount.
Michael Wharton’s Grinding Speed, 2015’s timber champion, will attempt to get his season on track after sixth-place finishes in the My Lady’s Manor and Virginia Gold Cup, races he won last year. Mark Beecher will ride for trainer Alicia Murphy.
