DASH Stable’s Ice It, last year’s three-year-old champion, took command of the $35,000 Georgia Cup before the final fence on Saturday and drew clear to a 4 1/2-length victory in the Atlanta Steeplechase’s featured optional allowance hurdle.
Irv Naylor’s Tubal finished second, and Noble Stables’ pacesetter Kingofalldiamonds took the show spot. Ridden by Sean Flanagan, Ice It ran the Georgia Cup’s two miles in 3:39.20 on firm ground at the Kingston course.
Ice It is owned by the partnership of Sheila Fisher and her father, Rufus Williams, and the regally bred Tapit gelding is trained by Jack Fisher. He secured last year’s three-year-old title with a victory in Far Hills’ Gladstone.
