Michael Moran’s Ivy Mills, running fastest of all in deep stretch, surged past Irv Naylor’s One Lucky Lady to win the Marion DuPont Scott Colonial Cup’s inaugural $30,000 Springdale for fillies and mares on Saturday. Cherry Knoll Farm’s Maggie Neary finished third.
Ridden by 2015 champion jockey Paddy Young, Ivy Mills ran the Springdale’s 2 1/8 miles in 4:08.20 on turf rated as good. The Broken Vow mare is trained by 2015 champion trainer Jack Fisher and won the year’s Life’s Illusion Filly and Mare championship.
Jennifer Pitts’ Bau Bai Gold, who had led the standings going into the Springdale, was a late scratch because of a stall injury prior to the race.
