Members of the American Steeplechasing community will have an unprecedented opportunity to spend an elegant afternoon at the races and to meet potential new jump-racing participants on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the Go Jump Racing Saratoga Hospitality Tent.
The afternoon-long event at historic Saratoga Race Course is a project of the National Steeplechase Association’s Promotion & Growth Task Force and is sponsored by the National Steeplechase Foundation and the NSA.
Among the steeplechase owners expected to attend are Ken Ramsey, Thoroughbred racing’s leading owner and breeder last year, and Dogwood Stable founder Cot Campbell.
A feature of the event will be a new video, produced by HCP Sports, on the benefits of owning steeplechase horses. A hurdle race will kick off the day’s racing, and the Go Jump Racing Saratoga Hospitality Tent leads into the summer’s biggest steeplechase race, the $150,000 New York Turf Writers Cup (Gr. 1) the following day.
Cost is $100 per person for an afternoon at the races that includes a full luncheon buffet, open bar, television monitors, and betting machines in the air-conditioned trackside facility. Attendee’s guests from flat racing will be admitted free.
“Space is limited, and I urge all of our owners and trainers to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Bill Price, chair of the Promotion & Growth Task Force. “Jump racing is the first second career for flat horses, and we will have a chance to highlight the many advantages of owning a horse in our sport,” said Price, a horse owner and co-chair of the Queen’s Cup.
Reservations can be made by calling the NSA office at (410) 392-0700 or e-mailing to RSVP@nationalsteeplechase.com.
