Amy Taylor Rowe’s Maserati turned on the turbo and surged to a three-length victory in the $75,000 Queen’s Cup MPC ‘Chase, the featured race of Saturday’s 21st annual Queen’s Cup Steeplechase in suburban Charlotte, N.C.
Trained by Leslie Young, Maserati was ridden to victory by Rhys Flint and completed the 2 3/8 miles of the Queen’s Cup in 4:13.60. Joseph Fowler Jr’s Express Line came on to finish second, six lengths clear of Jacqueline Ohrstrom’s Class Cherokee in third, and pacesetter Special Skills finished fourth, another 11 1/2 lengths back.
Maserati, a seven-year-old Brazilian-bred gelding by Point Given, was making his first start of the 2016 National Steeplechase Association season. He had closed out his 2015 campaign with a victory at Virginia Fall.
