A memorial service for Sarah Libbey Greenhalgh, a well-known steeplechase writer and photographer, will be held at noon Friday, July 20, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville, Va. Firefighters discovered her body when they responded to a fire engulfing her Upperville home on Monday, July 9.
Ms. Greenhalgh, 48, covered steeplechasing for the Chronicle of the Horse and other publications, and she also was a reporter for the Winchester (Va.) Star. Fauquier County authorities are investigating her death as a homicide.
She is survived by her mother, Sara Lee Greenhalgh of Poolesville, Md.; a sister, Katherine Kent Langton of Santa Fe, N.M., and cousins Robie L. Cone Jr. of Chester Springs, Pa., James H. Price III of Richmond, Va., Lee M. Price of Ophelia, Va., and George P. Greenhalgh III of Millwood, Va. She was predeceased by her father, William Walbridge Greenhalgh.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests tax-deductible donations in her memory to the National Steeplechase Foundation or Oldfields School, her alma mater.
