Nelson & Traveller Stable’s Moonsox went to the lead in the early stages of the $20,000 Winterthur Bowl and drew clear to a 3 1/2-length victory over Oakwood Stable’s Country Cousin in the open timber race at the Winterthur Races near Wilmington, Del., on Sunday, May 4. Rosbrian Farm’s More Fascination finished third.
With son K. Fritz Boniface riding for trainer Kevin Boniface, Moonsox completed the Winterthur Bowl’s 3 1/4 miles in 7:23 on yielding turf. Irv Naylor’s Almarmooq went to the lead at the start, but Moonsox took over before long and dominated the pace to the finish.
The Winterthur Bowl was Moonsox’s first win since the 2013 My Lady’s Manor. Prior to the Winterthur race, he had finished seventh in the My Lady’s Manor in Monkton, Md., on April 12 and second in the Middleburg Hunt Cup in Virginia a week later.
