Caves Farm’s Nat Grew, on the sidelines since a dominating victory in the My Lady’s Manor in April, returned to the races Saturday with another overwhelming victory by taking Shawan Downs’ $20,000 Legacy Chase by 12 1/2 lengths. The 10-year-old Broken Vow gelding had set all the pace in the My Lady’s Manor on April 12 and won by 10 1/2 lengths.
Finishing second in the Legacy Chase, a 3 1/8-mile race over timber fences, was Michael Wharton’s Grinding Speed, last year’s Virginia Gold Cup winner. Bruton Street-US’s City Press finished third in a field of seven.
With Jody Petty in the saddle for trainer Eddie Graham, Nat Grew ran the Legacy Chase’s distance in 6:28.60 on turf rated as firm.
