Charles W. Strittmatter, a longtime National Steeplechase Association Board member and the organization’s treasurer, died Monday.He was 77.
He was the owner of Clorevia Farm in Flint Hill, Va., and in recent years had raced such horses as Dr. Skip and Easy Exit. He and his wife, Susan, regularly attended race meets and Saratoga Race Course.
“He was a great friend, mentor, and fabulous Board member,” said NSA President Guy J. Torsilieri. “He loved the game we all love, and he will be sorely missed. I had a very special close relationship with him, and my heart goes out to Susan and her family.”
Charley Strittmatter founded the excavation company The Strittmatter Companies in the 1970s and proudly turned the reins to the company over to his sons in the late 1990s.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Potomac, Md.
