Irv Naylor’s One Lucky Lady, winner of last year’s Peapack Stakes in her U.S. debut, heads a large and talented field for Saturday’s edition of the Far Hills Races’ $50,000 contest for fillies and mares.
The 2 3/8-mile Peapack is the kickoff race for the richest-ever Far Hills Races, with $700,000 on the line in its seven races. First post time is 1 p.m. at Moorland Farm in central New Jersey.
Trained by Cyril Murphy, One Lucky Lady will be ridden Sean McDermott. One Lucky Lady has two wins in three starts this year and captured the spring’s principal target for fillies and mares, the Margaret Currey Henley at Nashville’s Iroquois Steeplechase.
Among her opponents will be the reigning female champion, Michael Moran’s Ivy Mills, who bested One Lucky Lady for the title in last November’s Springdale Stakes at the Marion duPont Scott Colonial Cup meet. Paddy Young has a return engagement for trainer Jack Fisher on Ivy Mills, who finished third in the Henley.
Also lining up for the Peapack will be the Henley’s second finisher, Riverdee Stable’s The Grange. Trainer Kate Dalton will lift her husband, top jockey Bernie Dalton, into the saddle.
Get Ready Set Goes, owned and trained by F. Hill Parker, will be looking to duplicate her score in Saratoga Race Course’s Mrs. Ogden Phipps Stakes in August. Jockey Richard Boucher has a return call on the four-year-old Ohio-bred filly.
Trainer Richard Valentine will saddle Check Mark Stables’ Willow U and Jacqueline Ohrstrom’s Lady Yeats for the Peapack. Willow U, to be ridden by Kieran Norris, finished third in the Mrs. Phipps. Willie McCarthy will be aboard Lady Yeats, who will be making her first U.S. start after two wins in the 2015-2016 jumps season in England.
Here is the field for the $50,000 Peapack Stakes for fillies and mares. The number in parentheses at the end of each profile is the horse’s National Steeplechase Association rating.
