Middleburg, Va., September 10, 2020—The Virginia Fall races will run its 66th meet Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Glenwood Park. The much-anticipated day of steeplechase racing will be held without spectators and a free live stream of all races will be provided by the National Steeplechase Association. Attendees will be limited to owners, trainers, riders, grooms, officials, and staff.
The COVID-19 pandemic and associated restrictions has dramatically affected the equine industry nationwide. Cancellation of racing meets throughout the spring, combined with ever changing COVID-19 protocols has placed the racing world in an unprecedented situation. In the interest of public health and safety, the Virginia Fall Races Committee made the decision to run without spectators in order to provide the hardworking horsemen a much-needed competition venue.
“We are very lucky to have a strong group of dedicated advocates who worked tirelessly to make the Fall Races a reality during this uncertain time,” said Punkin Lee, Chairman of the Virginia Fall Races. “While we are saddened that we cannot include our enthusiastic racing fans in this year’s meet, the live feed is the next best thing and we look forward to having spectators back in 2021.”
Lee continued, “We are grateful to the Virginia Equine Alliance, Temple Gwathmey Foundation, National Sporting Library and Museum, The McCormick Family, The Bonnie Family, Virginia HBPA, and the National Steeplechase Association for their unwavering support of not only the Virginia Fall Races, but of the entire racing industry.”
The 66th Virginia Fall Races will run with owners, trainers, riders, grooms, officials, and staff on the grounds of Glenwood Park. Racing fans will find the live stream on October 10, 2020 through the National Steeplechase Association www.nationalsteeplechase.com.
