All the Way Jose is a Jonathan Sheppard home-bred who raced for Buttonwood Farm. He won the Grade 1 Lonesome Glory in 2017. Jose retired in 2019 with 37 starts and earnings of over $450,000. Jose’s owner in retirement, Erica Gaertner, is sharing Jose with a twelve-year-old equestrian named Jaidyn Shore, who rides with Suzanne Stettinius in Maryland. Erica gives us an update on their adventures!

This past month, Jose has been busy for Jose. I am not back to riding yet, so have continued to enjoy watching others ride Jose. We had opportunity to go to a field masters chase approval session, and Jaidyn already had a mount, so her best friend Carly Kern took Jose to qualify. They had a great time, and jumped the new easy fix fences at Shawan. Carly had a blast riding Jose at Shawan and Elkridge Hartford point to points, where they finished second to Jaidyn and Grandiflora. Carly also took Jose to for some cross country schooling and jumped banks, ditches and a water complex. Jaidyn and Carly are two extremely talented young riders and they both do a wonderful job on Jose. He just loves kids, whether they are riding him or snuggling with him. We had a pony club fun night at the farm and had more kids than ponies/horses, so Jose ended up getting ridden by multiple kids, and I think they all had a blast.
This past weekend we had a show at the farm and Jaidyn was back on Jose. There was nobody for the 3’6″ class, so she went in the 3′ class and then after we set up a 3’6″ course and jump off, and they rocked around it. Jose is now preparing for the pony club show jumping rally with Jaidyn, and I have some special plans for him this summer. I’m looking forward to getting back in the saddle, hopefully sooner rather than later, but in the meantime I’m having fun being the owner of this special boy.
